Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Calgary, where he studied secondary music education and percussion.
Since his graduation in 1995, he has taught band and K-12 general music at River Glen School in Red Deer, Penhold School and Penhold Crossing Secondary School, and is currently at Camille J. LaRouge in Red Deer.
Michael has been with the Red Deer Royals since January 2004 where he held several positions; Lead Percussion Instructor, Interim Director, and Music Director. In 2012, he took over the position of Director of Bands of the Red Deer Community Band Society and Director of the Red Deer Royals. His previous experience includes work with the Calgary Stetson Show Band and the Penhold Air Cadet Camp band.
Along with his teaching duties, Michael is active as a clinician and guest conductor. He has performed with the Calgary Civic Orchestra, the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, and the Alberta Winds professional wind ensemble. In 2011, Michael was inducted into the International Bandmasters’ Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu. The fraternity recognizes band directors for their outstanding contribution to the band movement.
